Hyllest til David Graeber!

Hyllest til David Graeber!

Please see presentation in english at the bottom of this page.

David Graeber was a professor at LSE and wrote several bestselling books, including «Debt: The First 5000 years», «Utopia of Rules» and «Bullshit Jobs: A Theory». David was also at the forefront of the Occupy Wall Street movement, and is credited with helping coin the ‘we are the 99%’ slogan. David Graeber is considered by many to be one of the most important thinkers of our time, as well as a great ally in the fight for social, economic and environmental justice. David passed away in a hospital Venice on Sept 02 2020, so Renegade have created a compilation to spread his ideas, mark his contribution and celebrate his life.

ENGLISH:

In honour of the memory of David Graeber

David Graeber was good enough to attend last year’s KÅKÅnomics festival, speaking not about ‘bullshit jobs’, but ‘batshit construction’. He was an intellectual firebrand who showed great consideration for all workers, but sadly and suddenly, the fire went out in Venice on 2 September this year. KÅKÅnomics 2020 wishes to thank David Graeber for all his efforts and last year’s enjoyable café conversations, by honouring this unique anthropologist, author, activist and social critic. He did not have a typical upbringing. Nor was he an especially typical social researcher. His colleague, anthropologist Thomas Hylland Eriksen, writing in the festival magazine, says of him: “All of David’s extensive scientific writings centred on issues such as hierarchy and power, and were imbued with an existential focus”. Hylland Eriksen calls Graeber the most important anthropologist of our generation, and will contribute with some insightful thoughts in David’s memory at this event. The media platform Renegade Inc. will contribute with a compilation of the best of David Graeber recorded in their studios. We will also hear the thoughts of David’s widow and collaborator, Nika Dubrovsky. Other guests will be present on stage.

When: Saturday 24 October at 14:00 in Kinosal 1 at the cinema.
Entrance NOK 100/50.

The programme will include:

David Graeber in conversation with Ross Ashcroft. An extract from one of a series of conversations they conducted over the years.

Thomas Hylland Eriksen, a colleague, author, anarchist and Professor of Social Anthropology, will share his thoughts in memory of David.

Nika Dubrovsky, David’s widow and collaborator, who together with David co-authored ‘Anthropology for Kids’, and is also organising an ‘InterGalactic Memorial Carnival for David’.

Other participants, and a moderator, will be announced at a later date.

Read Thomas Hylland Eriksen’s eulogy of David in our festival magazine! This will also be published in the Aftenbladet newspaper on Saturday 17 October.
